The Take Away - Starting Your Golf Swing

The Take Away - Starting Your Golf Swing

Golf Clubs

We're going to go through the first half of the backswing. Every part of your golf swing is important, but if you don't start your swing correctly, it's almost impossible to finish correctly.

If you followed lesson three correctly, you will be set up with a proper stance, the grip end of your golf club pointing to your belt buckle, which in turn will place your head in the correct position. Your spine will also be in the correct position, if your grip end is pointing towards your chin, your spine is to long, if your grip end is pointing lower than your belt buckle, your spine is bent over to much. More importantly your golf club is soled on the ground with the correct amount of loft.

You're ready to start your backswing! The take away is one piece movement, the clubhead, shaft, your hands, arms and right shoulder move in one piece at the exact same time as you get back to the 9:o'clock position.

Both knees are flexed, and during the backswing the right knee never changes position. The left knee however moves towards the right knee as a result of the upper body turning and the lower body resisting this turn, the left knee never passes the golf ball in the backswing.

Golf swing tips:

When you get to the 9:o'clock position stop and check to see where the toe of the club head is pointing, it should be pointing to the sky.

As you swing back away from the golf ball the club head must swing back on an arc which is inside the straight line to the target. When the golf club travels back on the correct path the combination of the arms and hands will be able to swing the golf club back to the correct position at the top of the backswing as long as the right shoulder turns out of the way.

Golf swing tips:

The right shoulder must turn out of the way, not tilting. It is very difficult to get to 9:o'clock with the right shoulder tilted.

The 9:o'clock position is half way back in your backswing. This is a good time to stop, take a look around and check everything is in place. The golf club should be parallel to the target line, club head pointing up to the sky, right shoulder turning.

Golf swing tips:

At the start of your golf swing, think about turning your right shoulder out of the way to allow the arms to swing back, this will make you turn on your axis, and not sway back.

From the 9:o'clock position the golf club must continue up on an arc. This can only happen as you continue to turn the right shoulder out of the way. The shoulders must continue to turn allowing the arms hands and golf club to swing up to the top of your golf swing.

Loxahatchee Club - Golf Resorts in Florida

Loxahatchee Club - Golf Resorts in Florida

Golf Clubs

Jupiter and the Palm Beach Gardens area are known for exclusive and prestigious golf and country clubs, but some stand out a little more than others. These clubs are known for the small number of members, understated personalized service, attention to service and detail, and caddies on the golf course.

Among this group of exclusive clubs is The Loxahatchee Club. It is built on 340 acres with 71 acres of lakes and 40 acres of greenspace situated in central Jupiter. The Club can easily be overlooked by the casual passerby as homes sit nestled quietly behind a guarded entrance and a perimeter heavily planted with tropical foliage. The Club is built around a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course and was recognized in 2009 as the #9 in the "Platinum Clubs of America" which celebrates America's top 235 private clubs.

There are 285 homes each distinctly unique and reflect the owner's conception of what life in Jupiter can be. When considering a home you can choose from golf course views, lake views and a few vacant homesites in the half acre size are still available for you to put your dreams onto paper and then see them constructed. Existing homes here range in size from 1,500 square feet to around 10,000 though most are in the 4,000-5,000 square foot range. Homes have been constructed since the mid-1980's, so there are different architectural styles throughout the existing homes.

Living in The Loxahatchee Club, you will be close to other clubs like Admirals Cove, Jonathan's Landing and Jupiter Hills. While there is no ocean access here, if boating, fishing or sailing are of interest you can keep your yacht or sailboat at marinas like Seasport, Blowing Rocks or Soverel Harbour.

Used Golf Clubs, Practice All You Want

Used Golf Clubs, Practice All You Want

Golf Clubs

No matter how confident you are, if you have never played golf, you should not risk going in and buying a set of golf clubs right away. It is always wise to borrow clubs from a friend or a colleague, get some experience and then think about making a purchase. Furthermore, it takes time to figure out the kind of clubs that suit your style of playing. You could however, go in for used golf clubs, pick them up from the local sports store, and use them till you are ready for the big leagues. Not only will these be cheaper, but will help you practice as much as you want without worrying about damaging the clubs.

Some tips to follow while going in for used clubs are,

Rental clubs:

There are many clubs around the world that specialize in golf. These allow people to come in, play a game or two by borrowing all the necessary equipment for a nominal fee. These rental clubs are typically situated within the driving ranges, and offer all customers their range of products. People can borrow used clubs, balls, Tees and other items, use them for a period of time and return when done. It is almost similar to going to a book library, borrowing books and reading them over a period of time. A good opportunity to try out different clubs, drivers to see which gives you maximum power or distance. Once you have determined which clubs are the perfect ones for you, purchase can be made from a reputed store.

Beginner's clubs:

A golf club set consists of many clubs, each used for a different kind of shot, or to give maximum distance. But for beginners, they are generally advised to use half a set, till they get the hang of the game. Thereon, they can try all the drivers and work their way through the course. The half set could be a combination of clubs, some with a sand iron, pitching wedge and a putter of course. A driver is not really needed when learning the ropes of the game, but if the person is comfortable they can give it a shot. Using a 3 wood is what helps most beginners get the ball flying through air, and if they were to use any of the 3 irons, they will notice the ball doesn't go too far. By using the half set, beginners can make the choice of which club to use easily, and get going, instead of wondering which club to use when. It could be a bit overwhelming at the beginning, but as they play, they will realize its not so complicated after all.

Used golf clubs are ideal for people to practice, and beat up with, since they don't have to worry about breaking or damaging the clubs. Sometimes, beginners tend to put too much pressure on the club while getting the ball off the tee, and this could lead to bending, or breaking of the golf club.

Golf Club Sets - Don't Shoot Your Game in the Foot Hunting For a Bargain

Golf Club Sets - Don't Shoot Your Game in the Foot Hunting For a Bargain

Golf Clubs

What ever level you play the great game of golf at, one guaranteed Key Point Indicator that dictates how you play the game is in the mind, that is the confidence factor. Here is an example I was playing in an Amateur 18 Hole Golf Handicap in the desert on the browns (desert equivalent of greens) course playing the ball off a green tufted mat when on the compacted sand fairways. It was hot as usual and I was playing confidently - but I was not looking at the leaderboard, anyway after playing 14 holes I looked at the leaderboard to see that I am leading by 2 shots. Then the mind factor took over I dropped a shot to par at 15, and again at 16, then had a disastrous hole 17 where I dropped two shots to par, the round was then over for me and I was beaten, not by the golf club set I was using, but quite simply by my mind working against me!

Here is another example of the mind factor Tiger Woods just recently returned to golf at the US Masters 2010 under the spotlight of all the international media - anyway it was obvious that his game was not 100 per cent, but his mind was revved up with confidence and he shot 4 very solid rounds and finished joint fourth a great result and performance. Less than two weeks later when you would have expected his game to have improved even more he missed the cut at the Quail Hollow Championship shooting his worst 36 holes in 14 years on the PGA Tour. So this is another example that the golf game is a mind game, and whether you play with the best clubs in the world or use discounted cheap golf club sets, if you mind is not right, your game will not be right

Let us summarize the upside of playing with the right golf club set, firstly select clubs on how they feel - the comfort zone factor - because if your mind likes the clubs chances are you will play well with the clubs you have selected. But if you select your golf club set on price only - your chances of playing good golf are limited as nine times out of ten your mind when playing will not be in the 'mind comfort zone'

So back to the great title 'Don't shoot your game in the foot hunting for a bargain' remember price is not the most important factor when selecting your clubs but for sure you will find some great clubs to improve your game when choosing your golf club set.

Change Your Golf Grips For Better Golf

Change Your Golf Grips For Better Golf

Golf Clubs

Putting new grips on your golf clubs can be a inexpensive and effective solution to quickly give you more consistency in your game.

Most amateur golfers never change the grips on their clubs. They play for years with a set of clubs without ever changing the grips!

Whereas, some professionals have been known to re-grip their clubs at the end of every competitive round. They do this so their clubs feel exactly the same. Chances are that they don't need them re-gripping that often, but in today's tour competitions there is so much money at stake that they do not want to leave anything to chance.

How often should you re-grip your clubs?

A good general rule is:

if you play once a week, then you should change the grips on your clubs once a year. Play twice a week, change twice a year etc.

Of course, if you do a lot of practice on the range you should consider changing your grips even more frequently. You could easily hit 30 shots with your driver in a range session. In a round of golf you may not use your driver more than 10 times. So one range session a week hitting 30 drives, would equate to 3 rounds a week, implying re-gripping 3 times a year.

You will also find you have certain clubs that are used far more often than others, especially if you only play your home course the majority of the time. This is because you play the course in a certain way - same clubs for same shots, mostly governed by the length of the course. So after some months the grips on certain clubs become more worn than others.

What happens when a grip is worn?

Grips are fundamentally just pieces of rubber to enable us to hold the golf club securely. The grips have various type of a textured surface to provide more grip security and feel. As a grip is used over and over the surface rubber begins to wear. The natural oils in our hands also start to affect the grips. You will notice this as it will start to look shiny.

If you look at old used set of golf clubs that have never been re-gripped you will see that the grips are often very shiny.

Shiny grips are a problem. You have to grip the club harder when the grip is shiny so that it does not slip and turn in your hands as you take a swing. You may not even be aware you are doing it! The problem with gripping the club too hard is that it adversely affects the way you strike the ball. Your hands are simply not relaxed, and therefore, because the muscles in your hands and forearms are tense, they will slow down. In the golf swing, relaxed hands are fast hands. You need fast hands to get good distance.

It is worth checking your golf clubs at least once a month. Compare grips across the entire set. If any are beginning to wear, consider getting them renewed.

New grips feel good. They can almost feel "sticky" by comparison to the old worn grips. This can give you real sense of confidence.

Confidence builds success.

Do You Understand Golf Club Swing Weight

Do You Understand Golf Club Swing Weight

Golf Clubs

Golf club swing weight. Have you heard that term before?

A rather effective method of improving the golf swing is by adding extra weight to the club and then going through the motions of swinging.

This sort of exercise has many advantages apart from the fact that it is very golf specific and works on building the exact muscles you use during a golf swing or drive.

The other reason why extra weight on the club dramatically improves any golf swing is because the whole swing movement usually feels very unnatural to the body. You can easily tell this from the body violently resists it, making the golf swing one of the most difficult things to master in the golf game.

The extra weight on the golf club even as you practice the swing, quickly builds up and conditions the muscles involved so that the next time you do a golf swing, it feels much more natural. The result is that you will be able to execute a much better drive.

The best way of achieving extra weight on a club is by using a weighted club. A weighted club has several advantages. The one that probably comes to mind first is its portable nature. It can be carried around everywhere.

You have seen those movies where the executive is practicing their golf swing even while in a serious meeting discussing weighty issues with juniors.

Maybe this is a little too exaggerated but the point is that with such a mobile piece of useful golf equipment, there is no limit to where or when you can practice your swing with it. Either in the comfort of your home or office.

This can only help you see the dramatic results much faster as you go about exercising and conditioning your golf-swing-specific muscles by practicing a golf swing with some extra weight on the club.

Why You Should Be Using Hybrid Golf Clubs

Why You Should Be Using Hybrid Golf Clubs

Golf Clubs

We have all seen the growing trend of more and more golfers using hybrid golf clubs, and you might find yourself wondering if they are for you. Well, I am here to tell you there are a lot more reasons for you to add hybrid golf clubs to your bag than there are to not add them.

The first question usually is, why? Well, the simple answer to that is hybrid golf clubs are easier and more forgiving to use than long irons. Long irons are widely considered the hardest clubs to hit accurately. Imagine, you are standing close to 200 yards from the green. Sand in front of the green, maybe on more than one side of it. Water may be in play as well. can you confidently put a swing on the ball with your 3 or 4 iron that will NOT end up in trouble a high percentage of the time? Most casual golfers would have to say no if they were to answer honestly. Now, picture the same shot with a hybrid. If you put a bad swing on the ball, the chances are it will end up in a much better place than if you put the same bad swing on the ball with your long iron. Imagine if you try the same shot out of heavy rough. The advantage hybrids give you is amplified even more.

Why does the hybrid end up better in the example above? Well, there are a couple of reasons. It is very easy to swing a long iron and hit the ball fat, meaning you hit the ground too soon and the club either skips into the ball, or sticks in the ground and the ball is propelled by nothing but the divot you dug up. The thing about either of those results is not only will you not get the correct distance, but you have no way of knowing if the ball will be way off course left or right in addition to being short. This brings all the trouble spots on the golf hole into play. If you hit the ball thin you may get more distance, but the trouble right and left are still in play, and with a thin shot usually even worse. Put the same swing on the ball with a hybrid and the results are very different. If you hit the shot fat, the wider sole of the club will not stick in the ground. The ball will still get loft and will still get decent distance. The real key though is the ball will likely still go straight! So you put a bad swing on the ball and you still got it up in the air and got decent distance on it. The odds are, you are still in play and live to hit another shot instead of dropping a ball and taking a penalty stroke.

Hybrid golf clubs are more forgiving and easier to hit than long irons That is the simple truth. If you are on the fence about using them, you need to jump over onto the side of hybrid golf clubs. You can start using hybrid golf clubs and make absolutely zero changes to your swing. the result is likely to be a lower number on your scorecard the very first time you use your hybrids. I can't think of any one thing you can do today that will make tomorrow's golf score lower. That is a powerful statement and the only real reason you need to add hybrid golf clubs to your bag today!

Tips on How to Swing a Golf Club

Tips on How to Swing a Golf Club

Golf Clubs

One of the essential aspects in playing golf is how to swing a golf club. This is of course of great importance since this is the very tool that will make or break your game. As you learn to perfect this skill, your game will improve.

So how does one start learning this skill? Is it really complicated to learn how to swing a golf club? Here are few tips for you to try to improve your swing:

Take a careful consideration of how you hold the club for the grip will determine how much force you can actually put on your shot. It will also direct whether the ball goes in a straight line or not. A good hit will also be dependent on how you hold the club for a strong grip will also help you move the ball closer to your target. There are common ways how to accomplish this best and the list includes interlocking grip, overlapping grip, as well as the baseball grip. A balanced stance will also help you achieve a good hit. Trying to keep your weight equally distributed on both feet will help you maintain the force all the way from your shoulder muscles down to your lower hand. With every synchronized movement of the body and the hand, the ball will surely be directed towards the hole, which you are aiming for. This is also important in order to prevent placing so much pressure and potential pain on your shoulder and hand muscles. With proper positioning, you will also curtain possibilities of muscle spasms. Concentration can be a very powerful tool to achieve a good hit. But this should also be paired with certain calmness. Being relaxed will not only place your mind at ease and therefore render a good hit but will also help you analyze how well the probable hit that you are going to make and where it will actually lead your ball. In this way, you can somehow project where you are going to direct your next hit. As you can see, how to swing a golf club is really a science, but once you have it, the game will come much easier to you.
